Aquacamp June 2023

Date: 25th Jun 2023 Author: Doron Jensen

Once again, hundreds of Scouts from across Oxfordshire, descended upon Dorchester-upon-Thames for a weekend of waterspouts and camping.  This year it was hotter then ever, creating an atmosphere where everybody wanted to get wet, just to cool down!  Four giant paddle boards travelled up from the South West, and proved very popular on the lake – 32 Scouts on them at a time.  There were 64 kayakers on the lake for each session, and 48 Canadian canoeists on the river.  Other activities on offer were rafting and gig pulling, plus their were water based land activities (water battles and nautical engineering).  King Alfred District were represented by Watchfield and Shrivenham this year, and the Jamboree Unit tuck shop ran a roaring trade.  Many thanks to the Event Fairys, the OxChefs and all the other volunteers who helped to make this a great event for the youngsters. And to David Parry-Jones and Dave Eylis for organising the event.
