1st Cuckhamsley
1st Cuckhamsley are the easternmost Scout Group of the King Alfred’s (KA’s) District. We cover the villages east of Wantage: Ardington, Lockinge and the Hendreds.
Our name derives from Cwichelm, a King of Wessex over 200 years before Alfred the Great was born. A barrow, reputed to be his burial mound, is still visible on the Ridgeway, due south of the village of East Hendred. (On maps as “Scutchamers Knob”.)
We have a thriving Beavers Colony, Cub Pack and Scout Troop, all of whom meet in Snells Hall, East Hendred, during term time:
- Scouts – Monday 19.00-21.00 (Age 10.5 to 14 years)
- Cubs – Tuesday 18.30-20.00 (Age 8 to 10.5 years)
- Beavers – Tuesday 17.25-18.25 (Age 6 to 8 years)
Being a rural community; our Beavers, Cubs and Scouts are very active in the outdoors, and frequently enjoy hikes, camps and bike rides in the surrounding countryside.
All the leaders are volunteers, and we rely upon occasional support from parents throughout the year.
For further information on how to join, or if you would like to volunteer as an adult helper, please contact the Group Scout Leader at DoronJensen@KAScouts.org.uk.
Please note that there is currently a waiting list for each section.
