District Patrol Camp – Sept 2025

Date: 25th Sep 2025 Author: Doron Jensen

The start of a new term and it was time for the King Alfred District Patrol Camp, held once again at Longcot in the West of the District.  Approximately 120 Scouts descended upon the campsite fields at the edge of the village, on Friday evening.  Scout Leaders helped them to set up their patrol tents and dining shelters, and then they settled down for the night.

On Saturday, a cooked breakfast was provided to all, by Archie and his team of chefs.  Then the activities began.  Each patrol had 45 minutes in turn, at each of the bases.  These ranged from Archery to Circus Skills, Go Karting to Glass Engraving and Climbing.  The Guides Pioneering Team was also there, with a longer session, to allow the Scouts to hone their knots and lashing, and construct a section of bridge that was then added to throughout the day.

The Scouts made their own lunch and dinner on the gas stoves they had brought with them.  The leaders meanwhile continued to be fed by Archie!

That evening there were spectacular clear skies and stars visible, plus an amazing blood moon.  Although open campfires were not allowed on site, due to the previous dry spell, the scouts still enjoyed campfire songs and sketches around the flag pole.  After that, the Explorers organised a wide game, using glow sticks.  Then it was off to bed.

Sunday – up bright and early to cook breakfast once again.  Then flag down, tents down and a litter pick to leave the site exactly as we’d found it.  All in all, an exciting weekend to learn new skills!

Many thanks to Rob and Richard and the rest of the committee for organising.
