Shackleton Explorer Unit

We are the Explorer unit for Grove, Wantage and the surrounding villages situated right in the heart of the District.

Our name comes not from the adventurer himself, but takes its name from a boat … named after the adventurer of course.

We are a Sea Explorer unit meaning we wear the blue shirts not the usual brown.

We usually meet in Grove Scout Hut from 8PM to 9.30PM on Mondays, during term time, but can usually be found out and about across the District and beyond whatever the weather.

Explorers are very active and we are frequently camping or hiking or taking in part in other outdoor pursuits. It’s a real youth led programme and the Explorers drive what they want to do – it’s not all about badges – sometimes it’s about who does the best chips in Wantage and Grove!

All the leaders are volunteers, and we rely upon occasional support from parents throughout the year – particularly for transport.

For further information on how to join, or if you would like to volunteer as an adult helper, please contact the Explorer Scout Leader at Shackelton@kascouts.org.uk

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
